Scott Walker says the state wont issue concealed weapons permits for women.
The announcement comes as President Donald Trump has expressed concern over how to handle the influx of women seeking to carry firearms.
The move comes after the state Department of Health announced it will temporarily restrict the use of personal protective equipment for those who want to carry a firearm.
Walker said the state will also review how to ensure those carrying concealed firearms are familiar with the law and are not denied service.
He said in a statement that the new law will provide individuals with the right to self-defense in the home.
A woman in Wisconsin, whose name is being withheld to protect her identity, says she wants to be able to defend herself at home, even if she does not have a concealed carry license.
